EFCC Apprehends Bishop For Alleged Fraud Through The Operation of a Ponzi Scheme
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Benin Zonal Office has apprehended a Bishop, Giniko Obi, who is a suspected fraudster, for allegedly defrauding over thousands of people of different sums of money moving up to millions of naira, while with using the guise of assisting them to fight poverty.
The acting spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, Tony Orilade confirmed this in a statement, that Giniko Obi, who established the Beloved Gideon Foundation, located in Agbor, Delta state, with branches also in Bayelsa state, Onitsha, Lagos state, Port Harcourt, Abuja and also Benin city, clearly denied that he was not involved in fraud.
While denying that he was not involved in fraud, he also stated that he was only performing the will of God by trying to assist the people of the society to fight and defeat poverty.

A statement presented by Giniko Obi, read that it was his desire and the will of God to see the people in the society prosper and that was what drove him into establishing and operating what seems to be a Ponzi scheme. Giniko Obi also claimed to be a Bishop who has been consecrated and also had a diploma in theology. His statement read thus:
“We write books such as ‘24 Nuggets for Successful Living’, ‘36 Nuggets for Successful Living’, ‘48 Nuggets for Successful Living’. We organise seminars and conferences on how to be successful. We tell the people to subscribe to these publications. If you subscribe with N10, 800, we give you N15, 000. If you subscribe with N18, 000, we give you N23, 000. I had about 30,000 subscribers and I was paying them”.
Furthermore, Obi also stated that he left Agbor, Delta state for Lagos with the intention to expand his subscription base but he said that his subscribers were very impatient with him.
Janet Amaka Okafor, claimed that the Bishop played on their intelligence by informing them that he came from the popular Gideons International, which is located in the United States.
