EFCC Arraigns Babachir Lawal Before Federal High Court In Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has, today, February 12, arraigned the former secretary to the government of the Federation, SGF, identified as Babachir Lawal before a Federal High court in Abuja over his use of a company alleged to be owned by him to remove what he had described as invasive grass at the cost of over N272 million.

Recall that on January 30th, after over two years since the Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Engineer David Babachir Lawal was removed, the federal government under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari pressed charges against Babachir Lawal, the former secretary to the government of the federation, over the alleged fraud which saw him use a company which was said to be owned by him to remove what he labelled as invasive grass while using the cost of over N272 million.

The President of Nigeria, Muhammad Buhari, had previously on October 2017, suspended the former secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir Lawal over the allegation which went around the country that he engaged himself in.

This was after a panel was formed, headed and led by the vice president identified as Yemi Osinbajo, had submitted its report after a deep investigation into the alleged fraud of N272 Million which Babachir Lawal, the former secretary had acclaimed to have used to remove what he described as invasive grass under a company alleged to be his own.

Furthermore, during the arraignment of the former secretary to the federation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pressed a10-count charge against the Babachir Lawal, the former SGF, bordering on alleged conspiracy and fraudulent acquisition of property.

However, Babachir Lawal, the former SGF, pleaded not guilty to the 10 count charges.
