‘EFCC has no power to investigate Rivers State financial transactions’ – Gov. Nyesom Wike

– The Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has stated that the EFCC has no power to investigate the financial transactions of the state

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers state in a latest statement has declared that the country’s anti-graft body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has no power to investigate the financial transactions of the state.

The Rivers state Governor made this declaration on Thursday during a Courtesy Visit by the Group Managing Director Designate of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu.

Gov. Nyesom Wike in his statement stressed that before the EFCC can investigate the Rivers State Government then it must first vacate the judgment of the Federal High Court that declared that the anti-graft agency cannot investigate the Rivers state financial transactions.

Wike added that giving the financial transactions of the Rivers State Government to the EFCC is illegal as due process must be followed.

He said: “EFCC has no powers to look into our financial transactions. You cannot be giving our financial transactions to the EFCC, because that it is illegal.

“Unless the EFCC sets aside the judgment, they have no powers to look into our financial transactions. Not that we are afraid, but due process must be followed”.

Nyesom Wike also made it known that if Zenith Bank refuses to obey the Federal High Court Judgment then the Rivers State Government will be compelled to file the necessary processes to ensure the right process are followed.

The Rivers State Government also applauded Zenith Bank for the help they have rendered in the realization of some projects in the state and also for the cordial relationship, Gov. Wike added that state government will repay it loan to the Bank by May ending.
