Everton Crush Chelsea Hopes Of Going Top Four Ahead Of International Break

Chelsea might have started the first forty-five minute on the front foot with three quick shots on target and Eden Hazard hitting the upright but it was Everton who came out tops at the Goodison Park with an impressive display in the second half.

Chelsea went visiting the Evertonians with a game in hand which could see them go straight to the top four but they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat with a dismal second half combining a blunt attack and defensive timidity in the most humiliating way possible.

Maurizio Sarri can now see that his problems extend beyond a lack of clinical edge by his frontline. David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso were particularly terrible on the night and were at one point on the other guilty of the problems caused them by the Tofees.

Indeed, Marcos Alonso at some point should have gotten a second yellow for his challenge on Richarlison after giving away a penalty from where he got his yellow for nibbling the Brazilian on his ankle.

The shift in momentum was fierce, the Toffees were full of vigour in the second half looking to exploit Luiz’s weaknesses and cut off passes from Jorginho.

And it was with this sort of play that Richarlison sent in a cross for Bernard but the winger couldn’t get his foot to it.

Andre Gomes then followed it up with a curling shot which forced Kepa Arrizabalaga to a smart save. Four minutes later, Sigurdsson’s corner found Calvert-Lewin and Kepa’s block dropped to Richarlison who finished it with a header.

Goodison Park was lit as Everton were close to getting their first win over a ‘Big Six’ team in two years.

Their second came with 71 minutes on the clock when Marcos Alonso tripped Richarlison, Sigurdsson took to the penalty spot but his kick was saved only for him to convert from a carefully placed shot into the right corner.
