Everton Vs Manchester City EPL 06 February Review

Manchester City put Merseyside club, Everton in their place through stoppage time goals in both halves by Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus. This win has placed the Citizens in top spot on the Premier League log atop Liverpool on goal difference.

Pep started his preferred striker and hat trick scorer, Sergio Aguero once more and gave Sane a start over Raheem Sterling.

ManCity stretched the hosts by playing wide through Sane but the German’s positioning was pretty much below average with the offside flag pointing in his direction for most parts of the first half.

Everton conceded once more from a dead ball situation as they did against Wolverhampton Wanderers with Jimenez the goal scorer.

Marco Silva’s teams have always had the problem of defending from dead ball situations and Everton wasn’t going to be any different.

Leroy Sane flicked on a pass from free-kick position to David Silva who sent in a good ball into the box. Aymeric Laporte jumped the highest to fire the home visitors. But just before that Ilkay Gundogan had struck the post after latching on to a cross from the left flank.

Marco Silva must have been ready to get into the dug-out but Guardiola’s men had other plans which they executed with every detail to get them a well deserve lead.

That said, the Toffees must be commended for doing a good job with their well-organized backline. The trio of Kurt Zouma, Gana and Idrissa Gueye made sure Aguero had no breathing space for a wild shot.

The Toffees brought on the pair of Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson but that wasn’t enough for a side that had no conviction in front of goal all night with Andre Gomes failing to provide Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Citizens brought on Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus with the substitutes linking up to get the second goal of the night in the 97th-minute to fire Manchester City to the top of the log.
