Elder statesman, Professor Banji Akintoye has said that the Nigerians will not believe President Muhammadu Buhari’s new statement on True Federalism, till he puts his words to action.

Prof. Akintoye, a renown historian stated this when he featuring as a guest on Channels Television’s News At Ten.

While describing the comment are surprising and laudable, the don said still the people will not believe it, till the conversation is taken further.

“Buhari must not make the mistake that we can be deceived into thinking that merely saying it has done it. The taste of the food is in the eating”.

He, therefore, said when the President starts to work on a program that shows a clear line to restructuring and to a true federation, then the people will accept and work with him.

Speaking on his scepticism for the president, the don said it stems from the President’s posture hitherto, making it clear from the onset that he (Buhari) has no business with restructuring the country and taking it back to a true federation.

He, however, noted that if the President’s intentions are true, then it is an agenda that all Nigerians should support.

iDONSABI reports that president Buhari, who during a keynote address at an award ceremony organised by Governors of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in his honour on Friday said that true federalism and better collaboration among all sectors in the country is needed at this time, in order to move the country forward.

President Buhari asked the governors to support his administration’s programmes and policies in order to hasten development in the country.

“At a time when some few privileged individuals and groups have chosen to exploit and manipulate the ethnic and religious front-lines for seeking personal and partisan advantage, we need to build bridges across the various divides”.

President, therefore, called on all state governors to partner with the Federal Government in the execution of its anti-corruption agenda, urging them to support programs of social protection, school feeding and other causes geared towards human capital.
