We are going to kick the Chief Justice of Nigeria, out of office, FG vows.

The battle between the Executive arm of government and the Judiciary arm, is not over yet, as the Federal Government of Nigeria, has made fresh moves to remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria from office. Asides the planned removal, the FG will also charge the CJN to the Code Of Conduct Tribunal on Monday 14th January, 2019.

Recall that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, was in 2015, arraigned at the tribunal but later acquitted. The legal battle was dragged on, up to the level of the highest court in the country. Saraki’s discharge and acquittal was upheld by the Supreme Court under the leadership of Justice Onnoghen.

Also recall that in 2015, the Department of State Services, DSS, had in a surprising move, raided the homes of several judges.

On Friday, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Onnoghe, whose appointment suffered a long delay, was charged at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The charges were filed and served on him at his Abuja residence.

The CJN is being charged for his alleged refusal to declare his assets in breach of the provision of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act.

He is also being accused of maintaining Domiciliary foreign currencies account which comprised Dollars Account, Pound Sterling Account and Euro Account which are alleged to be contrary to relevant laws, especially for public office holders.

In a bid to save the judiciary from the onslaught of the executive arm of government, notable lawyers have quickly volunteered to defend the Chief Justice of Nigeria at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
