The Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Jerry Gana in a press conference at the country’s capital, Abuja declared that Nigeria’s democracy is under threat.

According to the reports gathered by IDonSabi, Jerry Gana made it known that some of the challenges the country is facing are threats to democracy.

The former minister for information stressed that the country is battling with an internal and external threat.

He said, “Nigeria is facing serious challenges that are threatening her emerging democracy and good governance within the rule of law.

“The nation is currently facing external threats, internal insecurity, and serious economic challenges.

“The insecurity and economic situation have worsened while the fight against corruption,  which the Federal Government toasts its success is being prosecuted in a manner that tends towards the disruption of the constitutional order. That is what we are worried about.

“Beyond politics, all lovers of democracy in Nigeria and well-meaning people all over the world must close ranks at this time to confront this emerging trend towards the institutionalization of cultic principles and gangsterism in the political and governance processes.”

The SDP Presidential candidates further hinted that the Federal Government has an agenda to muzzle the bench and the bar.

He insisted the agenda was part of the reasons for the persecution of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki among others.

Jerry Gana disclosed for all of these to be happening a few weeks to the election is an indication that the FG doesn’t plan to follow due process.

He finally said that for Democracy to work, the FG must allow the rule of law to take it due course.
