FIFA 2018 World Cup – Top Contenders for the Trophy

The biggest sports festival in the world is just three months away. I can’t wait for the tourney to start, and I know other football loving fans can’t also wait. However, there’s always a question on everyone’s mind. How will their favourites team perform, can they go all the way, what do we expect from them.

Today we will attempt making some predictions for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. We’ll be seeing the top ten teams who are most likely to win the world cup. I would also like you to remember that this is football and anything can happen. So you should actually expect surprises, they seem to happen at every world cup. That being said we’ll commence.

Germany

First on our list is Germany. The German machines are just one world cup trophy away from equaling Brazil. Jim Low’s boys qualified in style. They are defending champions and they also won the confederations cup, so really a lot is to be expected from them. Jochim Low has a great pool of talent to choose from. We know some players already have their shirts, the like of Mezut Ozil, Manuel Nuer, Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng. We’ll be expecting the likes of Kimmich and Timo Werner to join them. They in the same group with South Korea, Mexico and Sweden, so we’d expect them to have an easy qualification from the group.

Brazil

They are the most successful team at the world cup, but then, the just past world cup will not be forgotten in a hurry by Brazilians. So Brazil will be coming back to try to redeem their image. Neymar is expected to return from injury just in time to join his teammates for the first match. There might be the issue of form, but then again it is Neymar, the most expensive player in the world. Tite Selecao is confident though, that Neymar would come in rested for the tournament. In the absence of Neymar, Brazil qualified in style, finished 10 points ahead of runners-up, Uruguay. Of course with the likes of Coutinho, Firminho, Gabriel Jesus, Willian and Marcelo. There’s enough quality in this side to do damage to many other teams. We all see them going far in this tournament.

France

The Les Blues are the third most likely team to win the world cup according to dabblebet. Coach Didier Deschamps has done well with this team seeing them through the qualifiers. And there’s a lot of optimism when you consider the calibre of players who’ll be representing France in this year’s competition. Some of the players who we will be expecting to see at the tournament include Kylian Mbappe, Alexandre Lacazette, Antoine Greizman, N’Golo Kante, Samuel Umti and Paul Pogba just to mention a few. This team will be star-studded, and we’ll be tipping them to go as far as the semi-finals.

Spain

They are a team one could term as best losers. Until the last world cup where they didn’t come out of the group stages, the Furia Roja seem to always do well at the world cup. Though never winning it, until when they eventually did in South Africa in 2012. That period could have been called the golden period for Spanish football, they were on fire all the way from 2008 until 2012, looks like someone quenched the fires after then. There are still some embers left to burn though, in the person’s of Isco, Iniesta, the wizard De Gea, Pique, Sergio Ramos and Morata just to mention a few. Coach Julen Lopetegui pipped Argentina in an international friendly 6 – 1 to show that they actually do mean business. Come June we can’t wait to see this team in performance. Spain is in the same group with Portugal, Iran and Morroco. We’d expect them to top this group and qualify for the knock out stage.

Argentina

This is another team that might just pull their weight at the FIFA world cup this year. Argentina came runners-up at the last world cup. This is the closest they’ve gotten to the trophy in a long while, where they lost to the Germans with an extra time goal. Dyballa, Aguero, Mauro Icardi and of course Messi are some players who’ll be at the world cup. By recent performance, Argentina is neither the first nor second, but we can’t take away the Messi factor. And adding an element of surprise to the Messi factor, we could just see the Argentines winning this trophy.
