Former ManUtd Midfielder, Anderson Retires At 31
Former Manchester United midfielder, Anderson has finally put an end to his footballing career after a short spell in Turkey.
This was revealed by Turkish club, Adana Demirspor which he made a switch to in 2018.
The 31-year-old promised Golden Boy never hit the heights of his early promise.
According to Murat Sancak, Adana Demirspor’s chairman, the Brazilian will remain with the club in an off-field position and has taken a significant pay cut in the process.
“Anderson spent the camp period very well, but was not involved in squad planning. Anderson got a job, he went to work and decided to quit football,” the club’s chairman told Radyospor.
“Anderson reduced his contract which was €600,000 for this season to €200,000. Anderson will continue to work at our club. I think it will be especially effective in our foreign relations.”
The Turkish side have put in motion plans to hold a testimonial match for Anderson on the 12th of October.
After breaking out with Brazilian side Gremio, the former Manchester United midfielder secured a switch to Porto before clocking 18 in 2006 and in spite of breaking his leg later that year, did enough to attract the attention of the Red devils’.
Anderson was signed for a then-record transfer fee of €30million in 2007. The midfielder showing glaring signs of potentials and did well to covert a clutch penalty in the 2008 Champions League final.
In the same year, the 31-year-old lifted the prestigious Golden boy award which was previously handed out to players in the calibre of Cesc Fabregas, Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi.
However all of his potentials failed to bring forth fruit, no thanks to recurring injuries and poor form. He then departed Old Trafford in 2015 to pitch his tent with Brazilian side, Internacional.
Even whilst playing in his homeland, Anderson failed to make any real impact and was even sent off twice in his first season at the club.
He then left for his present club in 2018, where he made 11 appearances last term.
