Four Akwa Ibom State University Students Apprehended Raping Female Student

Students of the Akwa Ibom State University have been suspended indefinitely for allegedly raping a female student in the school.

A statement which was released by the Head, Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol of the institution identified as Akaninyene Ibanga, made it clear that the rape incident took place at the Obio Akpa Campus of the institution in Oruk Anam LGA.

The list of the suspended students includes Akpan, Udeme Matthew Essien, Godwin Fidelis Bassey Courage Joseph, and  Bassey Godspower Columbus respectively.

According to Akaninyene Ibanga, the four students were suspended by the university authorities as a normal procedure to allow the police investigate and establish their level of involvement in the crime before driving a conclusion from the matter.

Akaninyene Ibanga also stated that the university would immediately expel the students if the police investigations come out that they really raped the female student.

He also stressed that the police cannot exonerate them because the victim has a medical report to back up the investigation.
