Ganduje Reacts to Rumours on Plans to Dethrone Sanusi

  • Group says the alleged move may destabilise the state.
  • Kano Government has denied reports.

Kano State Government has reacted to reports claiming it is planning to dethrone the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.

The Government has denied report adding that there is no plan of such move.

Reacting to the reports, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwa, insisted Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had no plans to either transfer or remove the emir from the throne.

It could be recalled that Ekiti Governor, Kayode GFayemi had to wade into the matter to settle the rift between the two and they have become friends again.

Ganduje had got a reply from the emir on the query issued him by the Kano State Government over alleged misappropriation of N3.4 billion.

Sanusi replied in a one-page letter with reference number KEC/CF/FIN/1/162, dated June 7, 2019, signed by the Acting Secretary to the Kano Emirate Council, Alhaji Abba Yusuf titled “Re-Report of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti–Corruption Commission” addressed to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

According to the letter, the Emir pointed that the Emirate Council had N1,893,927.38 (One Billion Eight Hundred, Nine Hundred and Twenty Seven Naira, Thirty-Eight Kobo) only as at the time he was installed as Emir, and stated that he is just a secretary of the council and not the accounting officer.

Recall that a group in the state with the name Renaissance Coalition had alleged in a statement by its spokesman, Ibrahim Waiya, that the state government was planning to transfer Sanusi to Bichi Emirate.

The group also claimed that the government insisted that he Sanusi refuses to leave the stool, he will be sent packing.

It also cautioned Governor Ganduje against the move in order not to destabilise the peace and stability being enjoyed in the state.

If the governor goes ahead with the alleged plan of dethroning the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria., the group threatened to compel the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Kano.
