Go Hard Against Drug Traffickers, Aisha Buhari Tasks Authorities

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has tasked the authorities to leave no stone unturned towards bringing drug traffickers to book.

The first lady stated this on Monday when she broke her fast with a freed victim of the Saudi Arabia drugs trafficking, Zainab Aliyu and her family.

iDONSABI reported that Zainab was held in Saudi Arabia for four months on drug smuggling charges, before being released after it was proven that she was innocent of the accusation and she had recently been reunited with her family.

Zainab, who was led by Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and companied by her parents Habib and Maryam Aliyu and sister, Hajara was in prison following the discovery of illegal drugs in a bag tagged in her name on her arrival in Saudi Arabia.

She was accused of entering Saudi Arabia with an illegal dosage of Tramadol, but it has since been discovered she was a victim of a cartel at the airport in Kano that specialises in keeping hard drugs in travellers’ bags.

The wife of the President, therefore, called on intending air travellers to be mindful and careful to avoid falling victims.

In an interview with the State House Correspondents after the Iftar, Zainab also called on the Nigerian authorities to ensure that those engaged in the act were prosecuted according to laid down procedure.

While thanking Mrs Buhari for inviting her family for Iftar with her and Nigerians for their prayers and efforts to ensure her release, she maintained that she felt very bad that the cartel, who masterminded the act (to me) was granted bail.

“They have to be punished for what they did to me to serve as a deterrent to others.

“I’m not the only innocent person that fell victim, there were many innocent persons who fell victims of this illicit drugs traffickers.

“So, I will like to call on Nigerian authorities to punish the cartel,”  she said.
