Guardiola Looking To Bring Bonucci To The Etihad

Manchester City gaffer, Pep Guardiola is reportedly eager to bring Leonardo Bonucci to the Eothad stadium. According to Goal though, Juventus are unlikely to let the defender go.

Bonucci has spent the most part of his career with the Biaconeris, racking up as many as 372 appearances in 13 years with the Italian giants.

The central defender made a surprise decision to join AC Milan in the summer of 2017 after spending seven straight seasons at the Allianz stadium, but returned a year later, admitting he missed Turin.

He has since found his way back to Juve’s defence and was rewarded for his performances with a better contract.

The ItalianĀ  giants managed to tie Bonucci down with a fresh and improved contract that will see him remain at Turin till 2024. The centre-back is therefore set to run out his entire playing career with the Biaconeris.

The Citizens are looking to bring in two main central defenders with the duo of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi being linked with a move away from the Etihad stadium.

According to reports, Guardiola is a firm admirer of Bonucci who he feels could be a proper replacement for Vincent Kompany as the leader of City’s squad.

However, the Biaconeris are not looking to let the 32-year-old with Maurizio Sarri seeing him an an important part of his project at Juventus. It is also considered vital for the development of youngsters like Merih Demiral and Matthijs de Ligt.

Daniele Rugani is the only defender set to leave the Allianz stadium this year, as the club is looking to prepare another contract for club captain, Giorgio Chiellini, with the Chilean set to leave Turin as a free agent in June.

The Spanish gaffer will likely have to seek for reinforcements elsewhere as the Citizens continue to look to Aymeric Laporte who was on the sidelines due to injury for the most part of the campaign.
