History of Kano State Nigeria

Kano state is found in the Northern part of Nigeria. During the military regime Kano State was formed after Nigeria’s Independence in May 27, 1967. Audu bako is honored with the award for producing a solid foundation towards the progress of the modern society and also some social amenities are credited to him. Kano State was part of Jigawa State, they were divided in 9991.The theme of Kano State is “Center of Commerce”. Kano is the capital of Kano State. There are different States surrounding Kano State, these states are Katsina State (North-east), Bauchi (South-east), Kaduna
(South west) and Jigawa (North-west).

History of Kano State 

Kano State is mostly populated with the Hausa, it is the largest Hausa Kingdom and from the ancient settlement of Dala Hills. Furthermore, the archive of Kano State states that the Bagauda grandson (mythical Hero) was the number one to become King in Kano from 999AD-1063AD. Muhammad took over the throne in 1463-1499. His rule bought transformation in the city, and this moved to the Emir’s Place. He did a major role by focusing the dominants to be converted to Islamic Religion. The Hausa remained on their own on till the Fulani came into the picture in 1805(19 century). Kano got its name from the ancestor of the Abagayawa, the earliest settler, who came from Gaya in search of ironstone and chemical.

In Kano state, Hausa language is mostly spoken among the Habitants. Islam is the mostly practiced religion while Christianity is about 10%. There are common dishes cooked in Kano, it induces; Pate and Miyan Kuka, tuwon Shinkafa.

Kano State Economy

Kano State is well known for Agricultural produce with maintenance and Commercial activities as a source of livelihood. Their food produce are millet, sorghum, mane, cowpeas, rice, groundnuts and cottons, are sold outside and within the State. Commercial, there are industries which are popular producers of hides and Skins, soya beans, cotton, garlic, gum Arabic and chill pepper. There are also trees for furniture.

Kano State has a Market named Kurmi Market by the Emir Muhammadu Rumfa (16th century). Kano is known as the second largest Industrial State center in Nigeria, they are mostly into leather works (footwear’s, furniture), textile, plastic, ceramics. The jihad leaders encourage kola nut business for the traders; this idea has brought millions of naira (financial growth) to the State.

The Government in Kano state

Kano State government is divided into three arms, namely;
The Executive Arm of Kano State: headed by the elected governor of the State, assisted by those he appoints to work with Him in the State government. ABDULLAHI UMAR GANDUJE is the current governor of Kano state.

The Legislative Arm of Kano State: This is the State House of Assembly comprises of 40 members elected by the people of the 40 constituencies of Kano State. KABIRU ALHASSAN RUWAN is the speaker of the Kano State Assembly.

The Judicial Arm in Kano State: headed by the chief judge of the State, NASIR SAGIR is the current judge of the State
