History of Kwara State Nigeria
Kwara State falls within the Northern part of Nigeria. The State has borders with the Republic of Benin –West, and the Niger River-North. Kwara State was formerly called the West Central State; later the name was changed and it took the River Niger that was the local name of Niger River. The capital of Kwara state is IIorin, located 306km inland coastal city of Lagos and 500km from Abuja (FCT). History of Kwara State
Kwara State is one of the twelve States created after the split up of the four regions in Nigeria. This State was formed in 1960, by Major General Johnson Thomas. Kwara State came into existence on May 27th 1967 during the Military Government of Yakubu Gowon. Kwara state is referred to as “The State of Harmony” which forms its motto.

The Government of Kwara State
Kwara State government is divided into three arms, namely;
The Executive Arm
This is headed by the elected governor of the State, assisted by those he appoints to work with Him in the State government. ABDULFATAH AHMED is the current governor of Kwara State.
The Legislative Arm
They convene at Kwara State Assembly. This comprises of 24 members elected by the people of the 24 constituencies of Kwara State. AHMAD ALI is the speaker of the Kwara State house of Assembly.
The Judicial Arm
This is headed by the Chief Judge of the State; SULAIMAN KAWU is the current judge of Kwara State

Economy of Kwara State
Kwara State is majorly into agriculture and the harvest Crops are Benseed, Palm nut, coffee, Kolanuts, Tabaco, cocoa, cotton.
Mineral resources are also in abundance in Kwara State. They include granite rocks, marble, feldspar, kaolin and limestone.
