House of Rep Member, Akin Alabi Is Trending on Twitter… This Is Why
A member of the House of Representatives, Akin Alabi, is trending on social media Twitter over the amount approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for the renovation of the National Assembly complex.
There has been a lot of criticisms on the approval of N37bb for the refurbishment of the edifice.
Alabi, who is one of the lawmakers that use Twitter almost daily, voiced his opinion alongside other lawmakers that had earlier spoke against spending such a huge amount on the edifice.
“I see no reason why we should spend N37b renovating the National Assembly. Yes, we need upgrade on some aspects like the electronic systems (sound system, voting system, etc) as they are outdated but N37b? No. Let’s spend that on our schools and hospitals,” he wrote on his Twitter page.

I am a member of @nassnigeria but I sincerely do not think we need a 37 billion Naira renovation of that edifice now.
Apart from the Chambers of NASS which need some upgrade in the audio & recording system, the entire structure needs no renovation more than our classrooms,

As a member of @nassnigeria, I don’t believe that the complex needs any renovation that would cost the country N37bn. We need more upgraded classrooms and hospitals to cater for the Nigerian people. –@HonLegor

It is my belief that my fellow rep members @akinalabi and @IfeanyimomahMHR is of same school of thought and we will together ensure that the needful is done when the matter is tabled on the floor of the @NGRHouse

Let Akin Alabi and co register their displeasure on the floor please. It’s good that they have come out to say there weren’t aware because it wasn’t discussed but where do we go from here? How do we ensure such slips don’t reoccur?

This is alarming. Are we saying that “a whole” 37billion naira was approved for renovation of NASS without scrutiny by legislators?
Are there other funds that have been approved in this manner?
Oloye Akin Alabi or any other well meaning legislator should answer this. https://t.co/XCby4gEGSB
