Puff Puff is one of the common Nigerian snack eaten by both the young and the old. It is spongy, fluffy and quite delicious.

Personally, I have a joint I visit to eat it every time I go out. that is, until I decided to try and make some at home, I discovered just how easy it is to make your own puff at home.

Why not give it a try yourself with this simple recipe!

Ingredients for Puff Puff

500g of Flour

100g Sugar (castor sugar)

2 level teaspoons powdered baking yeast

1 teaspoon of ground Nutmeg

300ml of  water

Salt

Vegetable Oil

Puff Puff Preparation Procedures

Dissolve the yeast into a little amount of warm water and keep aside.

Pour the flour with the ground nutmeg into a big bowl, then add sugar, salt as well as the fresh yeast mixture and thoroughly mix together.

Continue to mix gradually with water addition. It is usually done with hand, although a wooden spoon maybe used to mix as well. Mix for up to 10 minutes and ensure that there are no lumps in it, while you avoid it being watery, ensure the batter is smooth.

Cover the bowl and allow the batter to rise for close to 45 minutes. There are few indicators that will reveal its readiness to be fried; presence of air bubbles, doubled size of the batter. It may also become thicker.

Pour enough oil into the pot such that can cover an egg. Begin with an oil test. To do that, drop a little of the batter into the oil. Once the puff puff rises to top oil, it means the oil is ready.

Take a Scoop of the batter with your palm and then carefully drop into the oil for frying to take place. Try as much as possible to avoid  spills, bring your hand closer to the pot.

Fry until brown. Once it becomes slightly brown, it’s done and you can bring it out and serve.

To get the best of your puff puff, eat it with chilled drink, a cup of chilled tea is also not a bad idea!
