‘I Cried Until Tears Couldn’t Run from My Eyes Again’, Zainab Speaks on Her Prison Experience in Saudi Arabia

Zainab Aliyu, a Nigerian student who was recently released from Saudi Arabia prison after proveing her innocence over alleged drug trafficking has spoken on her ordeal while in detention.

iDONSABI reports that Zainab and Ibrahim Abubakar were in detention for the crime they knew nothing about.

The duo arrived Nigeria on Monday after intervenions from the Nigerian government in collaboration with Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah and Kano Government.

Haven proven their innocence, they were therefore released to the Nigerian mission in Saudi Arabia after President Muhammadu Buhari directed, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to immediately intervene in her case.

Speaking on her ordeal in Saudi Arabia to BBC Africa on Wednesday, Zainab said said she shed tears after being detained for drug trafficking, expressing her shocked about the incident because she had never seen or used drugs in her life.

Zainab, who said she asked her family for help but couldn’t get one revealed that her trauma started in December 2018.

“I don’t know anything about drugs, I cried, I cried, I cried until tears couldn’t run from my eyes again.

“I was asking my family for help but my family was helpless.

“The trauma can’t be explained; this trouble began in 26th December 2018, in our room in Medina.

“About seven men burst into our room without our notice, they said they were looking for Zainab Aliyu that came with some illegal drugs to the country.

“I can’t explain the feeling, you never know what they are going to do with you. I saw one Nigerian woman executed there.

“Everyday when I think about this moment, I burst into tears. I cried, I cried, I cried until tears couldn’t run from my eyes again,” she explained.
