I will Stop Opposing You If You Compensate #OnitshaMarketFire Victims, Omokri Tells Buhari

  • Omokri promise to stop criticizing Buhari once he compensates victims of Anambra tanker fire.

Reno Omokri, a former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan has promised to stop criticisng President Muhamadu Buhari if he decides to compensate victims of the Onitsha Tanker fire incident.

The incident which had generated reactions across the world left seven people dead. About 20 buildings were affected and five hundred shops suffered losses ranging into billions of naira.

Omokri, a staunch critic of the president and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) took to his Instagram page to make the request.

Dear General @MBuhari, I give you my word that if you compensate those affected by The #OnitshaMarketFire I will stop opposing you and will change my views about you. Not only that, I will destroy this #BuhariTormentor cap and wear a #BuhariSupporter cap. I beg on my knees!,” he tweeted.


Buhari reacts

Meanwhile, the Presidency had also condoled with the dead and sympathised with the people who lost their assets in the incident.

President Buhari in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity said “I am profoundly touched by the sight of the charred remains of an innocent mother and her child who are victims of this tragedy.”

“I also extend my sympathies to other victims of the explosion whose houses, shops and other property were destroyed in the mishap.”

The president, therefore, called for urgent action on the part of those concerned to stem these frequent fatal disasters on public roads.

“Safety precautions and routine maintenance are taken for granted by vehicle owners.”

“I call on the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Safety Commission and other stakeholders to urgently address the issue of safety standards in the country, with a view to stemming the embarrassing frequency of these tragedies”, the President added.
