If Money Is Going Into TSA, Why Is NIPOST And FIRS Fighting Over Stamp Duty?, Joe Abah Asks FG

A social media commentator, Joe Abah is wondering why the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) are fighting over stamp duties since the money is going into one purse, the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The reaction is following the new license fees guideline released by the government agency, that led to protest yesterday in its headquarters.

“If all revenue is going into the Treasury Single Account, why are FIRS and NIPOST fighting over who collects Stamp Duty?,” he asked on Twitter.

It is gathered that TSA though single, is still compartmentalized.  Every agency has its distinct account inside but just that the finance ministry and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) can peep into to see all government revenues in a single ledger.

The Minister took to his Twitter page to address the increment in the licence fee.

“Pls @NipostNgn, our attention has been drawn to an increase of license fee, which was not part of the regulation I earlier APPROVED for you. Your Chair and PMG were YESTERDAY contacted to put the implementation on hold and send a report to our ministry by Monday. Best wishes!

2) @NipostNgn, d power of regulation of NIPOST lies with the Minister. Any change of fee must be specific & be approved by him before implementation. I know the economic challenges of NIPOST. However, looking at the economic hardship of our citizens, we need to suspend any move.”
