Igbo Quit Notice Stands: Arewa Youths Insist

Despite the peaceful meeting which took place over the weekend with the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Alh. Kashim Shetimma. The arewa youths have refused to withdraw the quit notice issued to Igbos in the northern part of Nigeria. This was just as Shetiima tried to convince his counterparts to curb the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra in the Southeast.  This is coming at a time when the future of the nation remaining as a viable single entity is threatened and key stakeholders are doing their best to promote unity.

More so, the wife of the ailing Nigerian president, Aisha Buhari on Thursday travelled down to Imo State to participate in the on-going August meeting. This was just as she charged Igbo women to maintain promote unity through their activities and be focal points in the struggle to keep the nation as one indivisible entity. More importantly, her visit could be seen as helping to douse the tensions generated by the recent quit notice issues by a coalition of northern youths that everyone of Igbo origin residing in any of the northern states should vacate before October 1.

It is expected that in the period leading to expiration of the timeline issued by the Arewa youths, efforts will be stepped up to prevent the loss of lives which might be attendant should a crisis erupt in the northern part of the country. This is just as there are fears that the Nnamdi Kanu led Indigenous People of Biafra might escalate their calls for a breakaway state of Biafra, despite confrontations by other concerned sociocultural groups in the Southeast to encourage restructuring and not secession. Only time will tell on how these events will seemingly play out in the coming days as all hands are on deck.
