Ighalo Nominated For Manchester United Award

Nigerian striker, Odion Ighalo has been nominated for Manchester United’s Player of the Month for the month of February

The loanee from Shanghai Shenhua is the first and only Nigerian ever to play for Manchester United. The Red devils remain unbeaten since Ighalo arrived at Old Trafford in late January.

The former Watford man has been electric since he first starred for United notching three goals and providing an assist for the month under review.

The 30-year-old would however have to see off competition from fellow January signing, Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Harry Maguire to win the award.

Ighalo has boosted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s firepower since his arrival at Old Trafford in January, helping United to an unbeaten run that goes as far back as January 22 in the Red devils’ 2-0 loss to Sean Dyche’s Burnley.

The illustrious forward has also started March on the front foot, finding the back of the net three times including a brace in United’s FA Cup 3-0 win over Derby County. He also produced a man-of-the-match performance with a goal and an assist in United’s 5-0 dismantling of LASK in their Europa League tie.

The Nigerian who once partnered Bruno Fernandes at Udinese is yet to start a game for the Red devils in the Premier League but has already netted four goals in three starts for the Solskjaer-led side already.

With Premier League action suspended till April 3, Ighalo would be hopeful he can remain in form till his fifth-placed side resume action against North London outfit, Tottenham.
