INEC responds to PDP allegations that it didn’t allow Atiku access to election material as directed by the Court

– INEC has responded to the allegation made against it by the PDP that it refused to allow Atiku Abubaker access the materials used during the 2019 Presidential Election

– The PDP had earlier claimed INEC refused to obey the Court order which directed it Presidential Candidate, Atiku to inspect the election materials

According to an earlier report, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP had made claims alleging that the country’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC disobeyed the order passed by the Court of Appeal on March 6, directing it to allow the party presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar access the documents and materials used during the 2019 Presidential Election on 23rd of Feb.

The PDP in a statement claimed that the action taken by INEC is a deliberate act to frustrate Atiku Abubakar from seeking redress over the outcome of the Presidential election.

However, INEC in a new statement has reacted to the claim made against it by the PDP as the electoral body stated that it always obey court orders.

The commission disclosed that ever since the declaration of the 2019 Presidential results, it has been busy with other duties which include the Governorship and State Assembly election.

According to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, he said, “The Independent National Electoral Commission has a good record of obeying court orders. If and when the commission receives the orders of the court, it will comply.

“However, it is common knowledge that since the declaration of the results of the presidential election, the commission has been very busy with the multiple activities regarding the National Assembly, governorship, state Houses of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory elections. Only last Thursday, the commission presented Certificates of Return to senators-elect and House of Representatives members-electors including PDP members.”
