Inspector General Condemns Eviction Order to Igbos

The Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris has ordered all state commissioners of police to arrest those behind the eviction order issued to igbos living in the north.

Speaking at a press conference held at Abuja, the inspector General of Police, issued a strong warning to those trying to those trying to undermine the security of Nigeria. He stated that the police would not allow any group to carry out its threats against any Nigerian, and asked the state commissioners to be alert and to ensure that any group or individual that tries to stop any Nigerian from carrying out his daily activities is stopped.

The Kaduna state government in a statement has also condemned the eviction order and ordered the arrest of those behind the order. The state government stated that the right of every Nigerian to own property, move freely and to live in peace and harmony is sacrosanct, and that it condemns the hate speech delivered by some self appointed “northern youths”.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in a statement observed that “for a country facing threats of disunity, such ultimatum and counter rhetoric at this time is most irresponsible and callous, because it is capable of setting off a chain of ugly events nobody could control.” He went further to call for restraint on all sides by the Youth groups to pave the way for meaningful dialogue on how to restructure our country for the good of all. According to him, “Our country is too precious; our problems are too pressing to pander to divisive rhetoric”.

In addition, the House of Reresentatives also condemned the eviction order given by the northern youths and urged security forces to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the country.
