IPOB: Junaid Muhammad’s Comment Means Nigeria Is Sitting on Keg of Gunpowder, Says Fani-Kayode

  • Mohammed threatens that any IPOB member who makes an attempt to attack the president will pay with his or her blood.
  • Dismisses threat of murder.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP0, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the comment made by a lawmaker in the second republic, Junaid Mohammed on the threat by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which said it will arrest President Muhammadu Buhari if he comes to Japan.

The president is currently in Japan for the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development which is between August 26th to 28th.

Mohammed stated that any IPOB member who makes any attempt to attack the president will pay with his or her blood.

Reacting to the former lawmaker’s statement, Fani-Kayode, a staunch critic of the ruling government said the comment means that Nigeria is sitting on the keg of gun powder.

“300 killed on July 29th, 1966, 30,000 killed during the northern pogroms from Oct. to Dec.1966., 3 million killed during the civil war between 1967-1970, Hundreds of thousands killed between 1970-2019.

“I do not support the idea of any physical attack on Buhari or anyone else but given Junaid Mohammed’s threat I am constrained to ask the following question: How much more IGBO blood do he and his ilk intend to spill and how many more IGBOS do they need to slaughter before their blood-lust is satisfied?

“When it gets to the point that an elder statesman like Junaid Mohammed talks about shedding the blood of IPOB members you know that we are sitting on a keg of gunpowder and that we are on the brink of a terrible conflagration which could be ignited by just one tiny spark,” he stated.

Speaking on his respect for the former lawmaker who has been consistent in his criticisms of Buhari, Fani-Kayode said it should be clearly understood that an attack on the Igbo will be regarded as an attack on the south.

“This is not 1966 and things are very different today.  Any attempt to shed the blood of any southerner, for ANY reason, as a consequence of ANY plot or grand northern design will have catastrophic consequences.

While noting that violence and the shedding of innocent blood is not the way forward and the narrative of violence, homicide and murder has no place in a civilised society, the former minister said threat of murder should be ruled out.

“We can agree to disagree on issues and we may not even like one another but we should rule out threats of murder, mass murder, ethnic cleansing and genocide in all our discussions and debates and we should renounce and condemn them.

“You do not plan to kill those you disagree with. Only animals behave like that. I urge Junaid Mohammed to withdraw his statement and to join the rest of us in renouncing violence and bloodshed.”

Uncle M.J. and his empty shakara, as usual. Not pliable and a consistent Northern ethnic and religious irredentist. He and the likes of Professor Ango and M. Waziri have done more to keep Nigerian political climate stormy, peppered and unpredictable. Though the agenda remains the same but individual approach differ. While one is a dyed-in-the-wool advocate of immediate separation of the North from the South and Middle Belt – though he may not really mean it for obvious reasons, the other acts the part of an angel of sorts, who sits glued to the gates of heaven; he refuses to go in himself and bars others from entering. By their divisive and empty threats, they have only succeeded in holding Nigeria down from experiencing true progress. As a result there has been no peace, no unity, only tension, among the people of Nigeria. Little wonder why some people like Junaid, considered intelligent, keeps doing the same thing while expecting different results since before Independence o! Uncle J.M. please stop behaving like a child, for that path you are still treading leads nowhere but poverty. It was experimented on in Sudan for decades. But it failed. This is year 2019, for crying out loud! If iPOB or Nzeogwu should kill a Fulani, are there no other channels of managing such conflict other than adopting same most primitive method as fighting and spilling more blood? Uncle, I consider you an intelligent Uncle. Stop behaving like a Cave Man who had been thrust into the 21st century. Do something positive to be remembered by. Still love you, though not your ways…
