It’s Time to Remodel NYSC Scheme, Says Former Lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin

A former House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin has said that it is now time to remodel the mandatory National Youth Corps Service (NYSC) scheme.

This is coming from him after coming out with his NYSC pictures.

Jibrin, who was a member of the 8th National Assembly suggested that the twelve months allowances of corps member could be used as one-off start-up capital for each of them. He also said details of his suggestion will be shared today,

“Thanks to lockdown, found my NYSC pictures! But it got me thinking. It is time to remodel the scheme.The huge amount spent yearly including 12 months allowance can be used as a one-off start-up capital for each Corp member. I will share details of my idea in a thread tomorrow ISA,” he tweeted.

The recent pass out parade of the scheme that began in 1973 was done on a low-key due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Recall that the scheme had to quickly end its orientation camp for the new corp members abruptly to avoid spike of the deadly virus.
