Just in: Five Inmates Electrocuted, Ten Injured in Ikoyi Correctional Centre

  • The Comptroller General of the NCoS Jaffaru Ahmed would brief the press at 4 pm on the incident.

Five inmates were Monday morning killed and 10 others injured by a loose electric cable inside the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, Lagos.

The injured have been taken to an undisclosed hospital where they are receiving treatment.

With details of the incident still sketchy, spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Lagos Rotimi Oladokun in an interview with The Nation said that the Comptroller General of the NCoS Jaffaru Ahmed would brief the press at 4 pm on the incident.

The Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola had earlier confirmed the incident through a statement by his spokesperson Jane Osuji.

He has therefore directed a quick investigation into the root cause and the ministry will in the next few hours share a comprehensive update on the incident.

“While we commiserate with victims of the incident, the minister has ordered immediate medical attention for those affected.”
