Kano Emirate Had N1,89bn When I became Emir Not N3.4 Billion, Sanusi Replies Ganduje’s Query

After settling their differences, Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has got a reply from the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on the query issued him by the Kano State Government over alleged misappropriation of N3.4 billion.

Sanusi replied in a one-page letter with reference number KEC/CF/FIN/1/162, dated June 7, 2019, signed by the Acting Secretary to the Kano Emirate Council, Alhaji Abba Yusuf titled “Re-Report of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti–Corruption Commission” addressed to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

According to the letter, the Emir pointed that the Emirate Council had N1,893,927.38 (One Billion Eight Hundred, Nine Hundred and Twenty Seven Naira, Thirty-Eight Kobo) only as at the time he was installed as Emir, and stated that he is just a secretary of the council and not the accounting officer.

He, therefore, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity given to him to mount the stool of the Emir and clear the air over the allegations as attached to the query.

It could be recalled that the Kano State Government on Thursday issued a query to the first class traditional ruler over alleged misappropriation of N3.4 billion by the Emirate Council under Sanusi’s leadership and he was given 48 hours to respond so that the state government will take appropriate action.

The development had caused anxiety and tension in the state before Chairman of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF), Governor Kayode Fayemi and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote wade in to reconcile the duo.
