Kanu Believes Compatriot Odion Ighalo Could Fill Lukaku Shoes

Former Nigerian striker, Nwankwo Kanu believes that his compatriot, Odion Ighalo can very much fill the shoes of outgone Manchester United striker, Romelu Lukaku.

Big Rom left Manchester United for Inter Milan in the summer and has been on fire ever since for the Nerazzuris.

Kanu passed this opinion of his ahead of Ighalo’s ManUnited debut against Premier League rivals, Chelsea.

The Red devils have always been on the lookout for the Belgian’s replacement after he left for Inter in the summer of 2019.

However, United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to make a quick return to the market with injury to top scorer, Marcus Rashford. Consequently, Ighalo was signed from Chinese outfit, Shanghai Shenhua on the last day of the January transfer window.

Although Ighalo doesn’t go down well with a lot of the fans as the marquee signing they’ve longed for, Kanu believes that the former Watford striker will perform well for the Red devils.

“Yes he can replace him (Lukaku),” the former Arsenal forward told Goal.

“If you watch him play, you’d find out that he is strong and can score goals.

“What he needs is the service. In this team, I am sure his game will improve because the team has great players.

“Despite playing in the Chinese league, Ighalo is not a player you would look down on and say he is not a good player.

“I believe in him and I know he can deliver if given the chance. Bringing him to Old Trafford means that those in the club believe in his ability, and we have to respect that.

“I don’t think he will not disappoint because he will give them value for their money.”

Although Ighalo didn’t make the warm weather training in Marbella due to concerns over the coronvirus, the United striker is poised to make his debut for the Red devils when they take a trip to the Stamford Bridge to lock horns with Chelsea.
