Kevin De Bruyne Breaks Ozil Assist Record

Kevin de Bruyne was credited with providing the assist for Sergio Aguero’s opener, overtaking Mesut Ozil as the fastest Premier League player to clutch 50 assists.

The Belgium International reached this milestone while helping Manchester City take the lead over Bournmeouth on Sunday afternoon as the Citizens looked to bounce back with a win having dropping points in thrilling circumstances last week at home to Tottenham.

Putting things in perspective, De Bruyne could be tagged rather fortunate to see his attempted volley at goal fall kindly into the path of a deadly poacher in Sergio Aguero who left Aaron Ramsdale in position to save the goal.

That said, it was an assist nevertheless, one that would help place the Belgian’s name in the annals of time.

Kevin De Bruyne has now clutched 50 assists, four of which has come in the first three games of the 2019/2020 campaign.

The Belgian clocked 50 assists in just 123 games for Chelsea and Manchester City to reach that milestone, a new record in the premier League.

On the other hand, Mesut Ozil who previously held the best record reached that landmark in 141 matches.

De Bruyne also had to outstrip league legends in Eric Cantona, Dennis Bergkamp and Cesc Fabregas to reach this mark.

The former Chelsea man could have easily hit that mark last summer but he was restricted to only 11 games last campaign having been sidelined due to injury for the most parts of the season.

However, he warns that in spite of his brilliant record, fans haven’t seen the best of him yet.

“I feel good and I’m becoming better,” he told City’s official website following last week’s 2-2 draw against Spurs.

“It’s still the beginning of the season, so sometimes it’s heavy [going], but I feel fine, so everything will be OK this season.”
