Lai Mohammed – Suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen has nothing to do with the 2019 General Election

– Min. of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed said the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the CJN has nothing to do with the forthcoming election

– He said Pres. Buhari suspended Justice Walter Onnoghen over his admittance of failing to disclose his asset as expected by Law

Alh. Lai Muhammed, the Min. of Information and Culture has come out to refute claims that Justice Walter Onnoghen was suspended as Chief Judge of Nigeria because of the 2019 General Election which expected to take place in less than three weeks.

The Minister during a press conference disclosed that the Federal Government led by Pres. Mohammadu Buhari didn’t suspend Justice Walter because of the election but because he admitted to his failure to disclosed his assets.

He stated that the suspended CJN Justice Walter Onnoghen refused to take responsibility for his action instead he opted for means to delay the law from taking it due course.

Lai Mohammed in his statement in Abuja today said, ”Contrary to what the opposition and their ilk have been saying, this is not about the forthcoming elections, neither does the suspension of the CJN signal the beginning of dictatorship.”

He stressed that President Buhari is a democrat, who has proven this time and time again.

Lai Mohammed reiterated that the main issue is that the country’s highest judicial officer, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen is “being accused of a breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, and the legal and moral conundrum surrounding that. It is about the suspicious transactions running into millions of dollars to the suspended CJN’s personal accounts, all undeclared or improperly declared as required by law. It is about the Hon. Justice Onnoghen himself admitting to the charges that he indeed failed to follow the spirit and letter of the law in declaring his assets, calling it a ‘mistake’.”
