Latest COVID-19 Nigeria Update

Nigeria has recorded an additional 544 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)

According to the government agency, from the new cases, Lagos has 199, followed by Ebonyi with 65 and Oyo with 47. Others are Ondo-46, Ogun-31, Edo-30, FCT-28, Katsina-25, Plateau-15, Bayelsa-11, Kaduna-10, Adamawa-10, Akwa Ibom-8, Gombe-7, Kano-4, Taraba-3, Rivers-2, Abia-2, and Ekiti with one case.

Out of the 28,711 confirmed cases, 11,665 patients have been discharged, with 645 deaths recorded.

NCDC supervisor, task force vice-chair, and LASIMRA boss loss battle to COID-19

Oer the weekend, some high profile Nigerians have lost their lives to COVID-19. Part of them are a supervisor posted to Zamfara State by the NCDC, Dr. J.J. Shalanga, the Vice Chairman of the Benue State Action Committee on COVID-19, Prof. Godwin Achinge, and a former General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, (LASIMRA), Chief Jide Odekunle.

Shalanga, who had been in the state since the beginning of the spread of the disease was ill and was rushed to the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau, but died before reaching there.

According to the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yahaya Kanoma, when his samples were tested, it was discovered that he died of coronavirus.

“His remains have been taken to his home town in Plateau State for burial,” the commissioner said.

Prof. Godwin Achinge, died on Sunday at an undisclosed hospital in Jos, Plateau State. Although his death is yet to be confirmed by the state government.

Odekunle, also gave up the ghost on Saturday while receiving treatment from the deadly virus at the Onikan Isolation Centre, where he died on Saturday.
