1. Nigerian Universities Haven’t Been Ranked in the past 14 years – NUC

The National Universities Commission (NUC), has said that it had not ranked Nigerian universities in the past 14 years.

The executive secretary of the NUC, Abubakar Rashid declared that claims to that effect were “simply fake’’.

Prof. Abubakar Rashid, in an address at the 3rd Combined Convocation of the Bingham University, Karu in Nasarawaa State, urged members of the public to disregard recent rankings said to have been done by the NUC.

2. El-Rufai Elder Brother Dies

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has lost his elder brother, a retired AVM, Aliyu Ahmed El-Rufai .

The late AVM died at the age of 71.

A family source confirmed the news of his death. He said the late AVM died in the early hours of Saturday at a hospital in Abuja after a long period of illness.

The late AVM is survived by a wife and six children.

3. NAPTIP to Rescue 20,000 Nigerian Girls Trafficked to Mali

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says it is making efforts to rescue about 20,000 Nigerian girls trafficked to different parts of Mali.

Mrs Julie Okah-Donli, the Director- General of NAPTI, who made this known in an interview on Saturday in Abuja, said the victims were trapped in different parts of Mali, for prostitution.

She said: ”We sent a fact-finding mission to Mali last month and the mission came with a report that, about 20,000 Nigerian girls had been trafficked to different parts of Mali”.

4. Fire Kills Jimoh Ibrahim’s Mother

The mother of billionaire businessman, Omofemiwa Ibrahim is dead.

The septuagenarian died in a fire accident at her Victoria Garden City (VGC) residence on Saturday.

Mrs Ibrahim was pronounced dead at the scene after the arrival of fire fighters.

Her corpse has been deposited at the morgue.

Madam Ibrahim moved to VGC to be close to her billionaire son after she was released by kidnappers in 2011.

5. Bambam Reveals How to Get into BBNaija  House

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Bambam, real name, Oluwabamike Olawunmi  has given prospective applicants some tips to scale through the audition stage of BBNaija 2019.

Recall that Multichoice Nigeria had announced details for the fourth edition of BBNaija.

During an interview with Plus TV Africa yesterday, Bambam disclosed that applicants do not need to bribe anyone in cash, sex or kind to make it through the multiple audition stages.

She said, she didn’t know anybody neither did she sleep with anybody to get into the Big Brother Naija House.

In her words, “You just need to go there and be your original self. The psychologists that will audition you are only looking for something unique in you, so be you. Don’t try and impress by being somebody else or being who you are not.

6. Seun Kuti Blasts Parents for Attending Political Rallies

Ahead of 2019 general elections, Seun Kuti, son of Afro legend, Fela, has lambasted Nigerian parents over the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Kuti, in a post on his Instagram page, argued that a religious issue such as the hijab crisis that happened in Ibadan could cause such outrage but the closure of universities for months has not yielded any protest by parents.

According to the singer, the parents should not be seen at the rallies when their kids are are out of school.

7. Sen. Akume Begs Benue People for Gov. Ortom’s Failure

Sen. George Akume, on Saturday appealed to Benue people to forgive him for supporting the emergence of Samuel Ortom as Governor in 2015.

Akume, who knelt down at the IBB square, where the state APC governorship candidate, Mr Emmanuel Jime, officially launched his election campaign, said he was sorry for his action.

According to him,he regrets that his then choice, Ortom has caused so much pain to the people of Benue. “The man is simply an opportunist,” he said.

8. Nothing to Fear about Eclipse – UNN Researchers

A team of Astronomy and Astrophysics researchers from the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), acknowledged on Saturday that there was nothing to fear over the total lunar eclipse that will occur on Monday.

The researchers said eclipse is a natural occurrence that helps scientists understand the celestial body.

A member of the team, Dr Bonaventure Okere, while reacting to the lunar eclipse expected to take place on Monday, said some people still attach spiritual meanings to eclipse which wasn’t right.

He said “Lunar eclipse occurs when the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth’s shadow and occurs only when the sun, earth and moon were exactly aligned with the earth between the two”.

9. Pupils Were Sent Home for Wearing Hijab in Oyo School

Fifty pupils of LAUTECH International College (LICO), Ogbomosho, in Oyo State, were on Monday sent home from school for wearing hijab.

This is happening a few months after some students of the International School, University of Ibadan (UI), were banned from coming to school because they wore hijab.

The Muslim parents of the school had earlier requested for the school management’s permission for their children to wear hijab, but their request was rejected.

10. FGN Releases Prices for the New Nigerian e-Passports

The FGN has introduced a new Nigerian e-passport with 10 years validity.

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mohammad Babandede, disclosed the prices of the e-passports to newsmen, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

See the prices below:

32 pages e-passports = N25,000 OR $130 for those abroad – 5 years validity period

64 pages e-passports = N35,000 OR $150 for those abroad – 5 years validity period

64 pages e-passports = N70,000 OR $230 for those abroad – 10 years validity period

According to the statement, both the new and the old passports remain valid.
