1. More Corrupt Persons Will Go to Jail – Osinbajo

The Buhari-led administration will jail more corrupt Nigerians if re-elected, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said. He said this on Sunday during his house-to-house campaign in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Mr Osinbajo, who was in the area to campaign, also visited various markets and house in the area. Speaking to the people in Ifako-Ijaiye, the Vice-Presidential candidate said grand corruption, which plagued the 16 years PDP administration contributed to the lack of infrastructure for Nigerians.

2. ASUU Warns Buhari’ Govt, Reveal Why Strike is Still On

The Academic staff union of Universities has challenged the federal government to stop distorting facts about funds released to the union. National president of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the ongoing strike was still lingering due to a few disagreements between the government and the union on the mode of releasing the agreed funds.

Speaking with the nation over the weekend, he said the comment credited to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige that N163 billion was released to the union was a distortion of facts.

3. Police Arrest Killer Armed Robbers in Lagos

The police in Lagos on Sunday said they arrested three suspected armed robbers who were part of a gang that robbed several homes in the Iyana Ipaja area.

A statement by Chike Oti, the police spokesman, said the robbers engaged the police in a shootout during which one of them, Damilare Adegbayi, 31, was shot in the leg and arrested.

4. NAAT storms NASS Public Hearing over Minimum Wage

As the house of rep begins public hearing on the bill for a new minimum wage, National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, has mobilised its members to attend the public hearing at the national assembly complex on Monday 28, January.

The association at its national executive meeting, Abuja, said it was in support of the decision by the leadership of Nigeria labour congress, NLC, that the N30,000 recommendation by the national minimum wage tripartite committee would be the benchmark.

5. INEC Accredits 144 Observer Groups

INEC has accredited 144 observer groups that will monitor the conduct of the forthcoming general elections in the country.

The figure, as published on the commission’s official website, comprised 166 domestic and 28 international observer groups.

The commission advised the entire accredited observer to abide by its code of conduct for election Observers.

6. INEC Excludes Zakari, Other Recs from Collation of Results

Ahead of the 2019 general, INEC, has excluded all its national commissioners from the collation of presidential poll results and other strands of elections.

The commission has also decided to throw open its situation room to accredited observers, civil society organisations and the media.

7. Buhari Meets APC Senators, Candidates Monday

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Monday evening host all senators and senatorial candidates of the APC to a dinner.

The dinner, according to an invitation issued by the director general of the APC campaign organisation, Rotimi Amaechi, will hold at the Banquet Hall of the presidential villa, Abuja.

8. Buhari May Remove Ooni of Ife, Sultan, Obi of Onitsha Next – Ben Bruce

Following the suspension of the chief justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Bruce has said president Buhari must be stopped.

Bruce said if Buhari was not stopped, he may remove the Ooni of ife, Oba enitan Adeyeye and the Sultan or the Obi of Onitsha

According to the organisers of the event which was attended by top government functionaries and captains of industry, Fidelity bank came out tops on all measurable indices to emerge the entrepreneurship bank of the year.

12. Police Seal Off CJN’S Office, Eject Staff

Officers of the Nigerian Police Force sealed off the office of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Monday, 28th January 28.

The officers came as early as 7am, told the staff that are already on desk to leave and sealed the office. The move was to stop Walter from accessing his office.

15. Police Arrest Notorious Armed Robber in Enugu

The Police Command in Enugu State has arrested a notorious armed robber whose name is Chibuzor Agu, who had been a torn in the flesh of residents of Oji River in the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement on Monday in Enugu that the suspect was arrested on January 27th.

The police also recovered a gun and a cartridge from the suspect. He was apprehended by a combined team of police operatives of the Oji River Division, Neighbourhood Watch Group and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency operatives in Oji River axis.
