1. Senator Sued Over Alleged Secret Society Membership

The Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum has instituted a suit at the Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State, seeking the disqualification of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi from next month’s National Assembly election over alleged membership in a secret society.

Nwaoboshi is the incumbent senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, and chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta. He is seeking re-election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

2. Confusion in Ohanaeze as Scribe Endorse Buhari

The President visited Abia and Imo States on Tuesday, 29th. Jan. in continuation of the Presidential campaign rally of the APC. The Chief John Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo had earlier announced the endorsement of the PDP, Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi as his running mate.

However, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Uche Okwukwu, who allegedly had earlier expressed a contrary view from that of his chairman, called on Ndigbo to vote for Buhari, the APC Presidential candidate.

3. Terrorists, Kidnappers Use Technology to Evade Justice

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi on Tuesday, advised security agencies to consider the application of modern and cutting edge technology in crime prevention and detection.

He said the appeal was necessary because recent events has shown that kidnappers, terrorists and other criminals now use technology to perpetrate their hideous activities and avoid justice.

4. Southern, Northern, M-Belt Leaders to Endorse Atiku

Leaders of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Middle Belt Leaders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere and Northern Elders’ Forum, NEF, are to meet in Abuja on Sunday to endorse the presidential ticket of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Mr Peter Obi. Sources close to Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Enugu said that the Leaders had earlier agreed to adopt any presidential candidate who promised to restructure the country.

The source said that while Atiku Abubakar had shown commitment to restructure the country if given the mandate, President Muhammadu Buhari was not enthusiastic to do so, despite setting up the Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s committee on the issue.

5. Buhari, APC has Failed Nigerians – Atiku

Thousands of residents of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, defied heavy downpour, yesterday, to attend the rally by the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party in the city.

The PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abukakar, who spoke at the event, said that the forthcoming election is about the future of the youth and the country at large. He said that the APC, had failed Nigerians in all the three purported tripod on which the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was rested.

6. NIMASA Project 10% Increase in Ship Tonnage for 2019

The Federal Government through the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA said that it has projected a ten percent, (10%) increase in ship tonnage in the nation’s shipping sub-sector for the 2019.

Speaking on Tuesday at the agency’s maritime industry forecast held in Lagos, Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside said that the projected increase is premised on emerging trends in global maritime industry that will affect the shipping and maritime sector.

Music divas, Waje and Omawumi have join forces to establish Hermanes Media, a new media establishment uniquely conceived to change the game in the media business.

8. Rohr Worries over Injuries

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has admitted his concern over injuries and complacency ahead of the Super Eagles’ upcoming matches in March.

The German manager raised concerns for injuries to the likes of Ahmed Musa and Tyronne Ebuehi

He however sounded confident about super eagles captain John Obi Mikel playing first-team football again, following his recent move to English second-tier team Middlesbrough.

9. 1,000 Youth Groups Back Buhari on Suspension Of Onnoghen

With the dust from the suspension of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen yet to settle, almost 1000 youth groups across the country have backed President Muhammadu Buhari’s action.

In a statement released by Comrade Aaron Tobias Turner, Secretary of the Communique Drafting Committee, on Monday, the president has no fault in the decision taken. According to the group, Mr Onnoghen would have done the needful by stepping aside hence avoided such dramatic and shameful exit.

10. Atiku Says Ports Losing $20bn Annually to Inefficiency

The Presidential Candidate of PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has said that the Nigerian port system is losing over $20billion in annual revenue due to inefficiency and decayed infrastructure. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar Atiku who promised to reverse the trend if voted into power in the coming election, made the disclosure during a town hall meeting with maritime stakeholders in Lagos last week.

The presidential candidate of the PDP, who was represented by his running mate and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, said that the port system is not working, even as he lamented the fate of Nigerians whom he said are made to pay extra $1,000 abroad on every container shipped into the country.

11. Nigeria Can’t Afford Distraction Ahead Of Polls  – Catholic Bishop

Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has declared the controversies caused the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Water Onnoghen, as a distraction the nation cannot afford, ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Onaiyekan, who spoke to journalists on Tuesday night in Abuja on the sidelines of his 75th birthday celebration, noted that the political atmosphere in the country had been unduly charged, owing to the judicial impasse the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend Justice Onnoghen and replace him with Justice Tanko Mohammaed as Acting CJN.

12. Oil Thefts: Fg Begins Tracking Of Crude Output, Vessels

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, said the Federal Government has commenced the tracking of Nigeria’s crude oil output and is currently working with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to track vessels lifting crude oil from the country.

Speaking at the ongoing Nigeria International Petroleum Summit, NIPS, in Abuja, Kachikwu, disclosed that the Federal Government has acquired the capacity to monitor vessels operating in Nigeria adding that already the monitoring exercise has spotted irregularities in the movement of some of the vessels mandated to lift crude oil from Nigeria.

13. We’re Ready For Your Dubious Plans, PDP Tells Uduaghan, Ogboru

Delta State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it was ready for any “dubious plans” the state governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Great Ogboru, and former governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, are nursing ahead of the election.

PDP said this on Tuesday, while reacting to alleged claims by Uduaghan that “he left PDP because the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, does not listen to advice.” The party quoted Uduaghan to have made the statement at Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of the state, during an APC rally in the area.
