Speaker’s Removal: Akeredolu Denies Involvement As Thugs Invade Ondo Assembly

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has feigned ignorance to the crisis which erupted at the House of Assembly on Friday. This crisis led to the removal of the Speaker and the Deputy of the House. Although all evidence points to the interference of the governor and the leadership of the All Progressive Congress in the State. Both parties denied any involvement with the removal or reprisal attacks on the lawmakers by thugs.

The displaced speakers were accused of gross misconducts, financial misappropriations and incompetence. Olamide George from Akure North and Abimbola Fajolu from Ile oluji/Okeigbo constituency were immediately named speaker and deputy respectively as replacements. The displaced speaker attempted to stall the removal process by attacking another lawmaker before he was subdued.

NYSC Certificate Forgery: PDP Ignores Nigerians, Submits Razak Atunwa As Kwara Governorship Candidate

The People’s Democratic Party submitted Razak Atunwa’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission as their governorship candidate in Kwara state,despite the fact that the candidate was caught in a brazen act of forgery. The Opposition party showed indifference to the call by Nigerians in various sectors, to drop Mr. Atunwa. Atunwa’s name was listed with over 30 candidates submitted by political parties in Kwara for the 2019 elections. The electoral body published the list on Friday, and it showed Mr Atunwa listed Oladapo Muyiwa as his running mate. The list was published despite a news agency exposing how Mr Atunwa sidestepped the national service after graduating from the university and then forged a discharge certificate of the National Youth Service Corps which he presented to the PDP to prove his eligibility for political office.

Buhari Arrives France For Peace Forum

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in France on Saturday where he will be participating in the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum , taking place between November 11 and 13 , 2018 .

The President was accompanied on the trip by Governors Aminu Masari , Willie Obiano and Kayode Fayemi of Katsina , Anambra and Ekiti States respectively .

INEC – Insecurity Increases Cost of Elections

In a call to bolster peaceful coexistence amongst Nigerians, the Independent National Electoral Commission has attributed the high cost of conducting elections to the prevailing insecurity in most parts of the country.

The INEC National Commissioner in charge of Benue , Enugu and Anambra States , Mr Festus Okoye , said this on Saturday in Makurdi during an interaction with leaders of political parties, civil society organisations and the media .

He acknowledged that though huge deployment of security personnel during elections helped in stabilising the electoral process , it was also capital intensive.

Lagos APC – No Political Gang-up Can Stop Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State All Progressive Congress party on Saturday, said its governorship candidate, Jide Sanwo-Olu would defeat all other candidates in the coming elections. Mr Abiodun Salami, the Assistant Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, made this statement to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday. He was reacting to a statement by a group of opposition political parties on Friday , that Sanwo – Olu was not a popular candidate and that he could not win the state in 2019.

Mr. Taofeek Gani, the Publicity Secretary of the opposition party in the state, had recently called Sanwo-Olu an unprepared and incompetent candidate. Reacting , Salami said no political gang -up could stop Sanwo – Olu as he enjoyed the support of residents to emerge as the next governor of the state .

“Sanwo -Olu will emerge the next governor of Lagos by God ’s grace . He is the choice of Lagos residents . He will be voted to continue the development strides of the APC party.
