Latest Update on COVID-19 in Nigeria

Nigeria has recorded an additional 555 new cases of #COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

According to the information released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos state recorded 156 new cases, followed by Kano with 65 and Ogun with 57.

Others include Plateau-54, Oyo-53, Benue-43, FCT-30, Ondo-18, Kaduna-16, Akwa Ibom-13, Gombe-13, Rivers-12, Ekiti-9, Osun-8, Cross River-3, Borno-2, Edo-2, and Bayelsa-1.

With over 40,532 confirmed cases, Nigeria has now discharged 17,374 patients and recorded 858 deaths.

Reps to make laws on COVID-19

The House of Representatives has declared its readiness to make laws that would cushion the effects of COVID-19 on Nigerians.

The assurance was given by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabimila on Saturday in Abuja at a retreat on the Revised Legislative Agenda entitled ‘Our Contract With Nigerians’.

The lower chamber arrows down legislative actions to health, education, security, agriculture, and the economy.

Gbajabimila, who noted that lawmakers were devising ways to ensure Nigerians survive the global shock caused by the coronavirus recalled that the House earlier adopted a Legislative Agenda that was ambitious in scope and innovative in purpose.

“However, in all our planning and imagining, we did not know that the world will soon change drastically, in ways that we could not then conceive and with consequences beyond our wildest imagination,” he said.
