A new report has disclosed that the recently Lion King remake has grossed in more than $1.3 billion at the international box office. This means the movie has officially dethroned Frozen, which had a record of $1.27 billion to become the new top-grossing animated film of all time.
But a report via CinemaBlend, disclosed that Disney doesn’t want the film to be labelled animated while insisting that it is a ‘live-action.’
Director Jon Favreau was quoted as saying, “It depends what standard you’re using. Because there are no real animals, and there are no real cameras, and there’s not even any performance that’s being captured that’s underlying data that’s real. Everything is coming through the hands of artists. But to say it’s animated, I think, is misleading as far as what the expectations might be.”
Whether Disney agrees or not, Lion King has unseated Frozen and Incredibles 2 to become the highest-grossing animated movie in the world.
Nigerian fans are happy with this new record considering the fact that some of the country’s artistes made it to the Lion King album, all thanks to Beyonce.
