Liverpool Threaten To Boycott Carabao Cup

Liverpool have threatened to boycott the Carabao Cup in spite of their victory against Arsenal and qualification into the quarterfinals.

Having beaten Arsenal on penalties after a 5-5 thrilling draw, the Reds are poised to take on Aston Villa in the week commencing December 16.

However, the Premier League leaders are also in contention for the Premier League, World Club Cup as well as Champions League.

The Reds have a CWC semi-final in Qatar on December 18 with a play-off or final to be played three days later.

Reds gaffer, Jurgen Klopp in an interview with reporters on Wednesday night said:

“If they can’t find the proper date for us and I don’t mean Christmas Day 3am… then we can’t play the game. Our opponents will progress.

“We will not be the victims of this problem.

“Hopefully it starts now that they think about the fixtures.

“I think a lot of people from the Premier League were watching on TV hoping Arsenal do it. Sorry!”

The CWC, a tournament reward for winning the Champions League, has already forced the postponement of Liverpool’s trip to West Ham.

And are soon after, due for their Boxing Day game against Leicester City.

It’s been revealed that Arsenal wouldn’t be made to lock horns with Aston Villa following their loss to the Reds on penalties, should Liverpool opt not to play. Instead, Villa would be waved into the next round.

There is a probability that the Reds would be punished for their actions though.

Klopp will be ready to walk away from the competition if he feels it’s too demanding on the players.
