Liverpool vs. Manchester United – EPL Dec 2018 Preview and Scores

Match Preview

Two football heavyweights, Liverpool and Manchester United are set to do battle at Anfield this weekend in the English Premier league.

The Reds still remain unbeaten and lie second place on the log behind Manchester City, who regained top stop after defeating Everton earlier.

Liverpool

Liverpool have dropped points in just three draws this season and are now the last unbeaten side standing following defeats for past two champions Chelsea and Manchester City over the past three weeks.

Jurgen Klopp has ensured his side maintain the momentum from last season and the only worry they had – which was at the back defensively has been fixed with the arrival of Virgil Van Dijk.

Bournemouth was demolished 4-0 last time out by a  rampaging liverpool and the Anfield side also followed this up with a midweek 1-0 win over Napoli in the champions league.

Liverpool have a point to prove against a big club as Manchester United. United have dominated the premier league scene for some years now and liverpool have to show their time have come.

Liverpool have some injury worries like Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold, leaving only Dejan Lovren to partner Van Dijk at centre back.

Liverpool possible starting eleven:

Alisson; Milner, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Manchester United

The Red Devils just recently managed to end their four-game winless run last weekend with a straightforward 4-1 triumph over Fulham, though it was a case of one step forward and two steps back due to their performance against Valencia in midweek.

The 2-1 loss to Valencia at the Mestalla meant that United qualify second best and so would most likely have a tougher round of 16 tie. Jose Mourinho‘s side have taken just 6 points from the last 15.

Mourinho can at least fall back on a decent record at Anfield, winning on half of his eight visits there in the Premier League to give him the best win percentage among managers with 5+ such games in the competition.

Winning this game is top priority for Mou and his boys as it would serve to somewhat reduce the pressure on the team from fans and critics alike.

Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial are out injured for this match. But Marcos Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young are confirmed starters. Mou still has the Romelu Lukaku decision to make.

Manchester United possible starting eleven:

De Gea; Young, Bailly, Jones, Shaw; Herrera, Fellaini, Matic; Lingard, Lukaku, Rashford
