Bauchi state was created in 1976. It is a state in northern Nigeria and has a landmass of 49,119km². Prior to becoming a state, Bauchi state was a province under the north eastern state in Nigeria and is made up of 20 local government Areas.

1. Bauchi Local Government Area

History of Bauchi Local Government Area

Bauchi is both a city and an LGA in Bauchi state. It is the burial place of Tafawa Balewa and has a tropical savannah climate.  It has a landmass of 3,687km² and is located very close to Jos in Plateau state. Some of the languages that are spoken by the residents of Bauchi LGA are Fulani, Gerawa, Jarawa, Gere, Sayawa, Kir-Balar language and Zumbun language.

Bauchi LGA is located in the southern part of Bauchi state. It shares borders with Alkaleri, Kari, Toro, and Tafawa Balewa LGAs.

2. Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area

History of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area

Tafawa Balewa LGA is the birthplace of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and has its headquarters in the town of Bununu. It was moved from Tafawa Balewa to Bununu as a result of unending crises. It derives its name form Tafari Baleri which mean rock and black. This LGA is occupied by Hausa/Fulani and Seyawa peoples.

Toro LGA has its headquarters in Toro Town and has an area of 6,932 km². It is both the longest as well as the largest LGA in Bauchi state. There are quite a number of languages spoken by residents of this LGA .However, the Zeem language is the most dominant.

This LGA is located close to central Bauchi state. However, it is still considered an LGA in the southern part of the state. It is bordered by Dass, Bauchi and Tafawa Balewa LGAs.

8. Ganjuwa Local Government Area

History of Ganjuwa Local Government Area

Ganjuwa LGA was created in 1991. Prior to its creation, it was a part of Darazo LGA. This LGA shares borders with Jigawa as well as Gombe state. Although there are lots of languages spoken by the indigenes of this LGA, the dominant languages are Hausawa, Kariyawa, Miyawa, Denawa, and Gerawa. Ganjuwa LGA has an area of 5,059km² and has its headquarters in Kafin Madaki.
