Manchester Derby – Man City defeats United at the Etihad Stadium

The Manchester Derby provided much action as Man City defeated local rivals Man United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening to go top of the table and two points clear of 2nd placed Liverpool.

Much of the talk before the match was based on Paul Pogba’s injury and it seemed to be evident that the French International was “greatly missed” during the match.

City opened scoring at exactly 11minutes when Bernado Silva headed Raheem Sterling’s cross back across goal and David Silva was just waiting to put the ball past De Gea.

United tried to get more control of the game but Pep Guardiola’s team were clearly the better side even up to half-time. Manchester United had some decent chances but they all amounted to nothing as City were also looking to add a second.

The second half started with more misery for United as Aguero accelerated towards United’s goal and played a clever exchange with Riyad Mahrez, before thumping the ball, from a tight angle, past David de Gea.

This forced Mourinho to substitute Jesse Lingard for Romelu Lukaku at the 57th minute and within a short period he won a penalty for his side which was calmly converted by Anthony Martial.

City would add another goal at the 86th minute, when the influential Bernardo Silva picked out substitute Ilkay Gundogan in the area and the German made no mistake as he made it 3-1. This makes it their 10th Victory in 12 games this season and they will feel superb about tonight.

Eighth placed United are now 12 points behind City, with all players now focused on international football for the next ten days.
