Manchester United Vs Liverpool EPL 24 February Preview

Manchester United face a daunting task when they take up Liverpool at Old Trafford in what is traditionally the biggest fixture in England. It seems a lot bigger even now as the visitors are in search of a first top flight title since 1990 and the hosts are chasing a top four finish by season’s end.

Manchester United

Interim manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have passed all tests in flying colours so far with 11 wins in 13 games across all competitions but he will be ultimately staking a claim to the managerial position on a permanent basis if he gets to win a rampant Liverpool.

Recall that the last tie between these two forced the sack of Gunnar’s predecessor, Jose Mourinho. The Norwegian gaffer would be aware that a win against the club who ultimately forced his predecessor out of Old Trafford would be vital in securing his position as Manchester United manager come next season.

The scale of turnaround at Manchester United has been dramatic yet refreshing for its fans and they would be willing to secure that fantastic run.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s seven points lead at the top of the table has eroded in such a short period of time, after a series of poor matches saw them occupy second place on the log.

Liverpool would know that they need all three points against United if they are to have any real chances at the title.

Even so, the team looked out of sync in their goalless draw against Bayern Munich leaving their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

A win at Old Trafford will be big statement of intent from the Reds having crashed out from all other competitions and looking disadvantaged in the Premier League at the moment.
