Recall that the Sussexes had announced a plan to step back as senior members of the royal family.

Although there is no suggestion that a conclusion will be reached at the meeting, it is hoped that the talks will produce a next step on how to define the couple’s new relationship with the Royal Family. This in line with the Queen’s wish to find a solution within days.

There had been several meetings and consultations in the wake of the couple’s announcement earlier this week.

Prince Harry and Meghan had through their Instagram page said they intended to “step back” as senior members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent.

According to reports, the Queen, Prince Charles, William and Harry would review a range of possibilities for the Sussexes, taking into account the plans outlined by Prince Harry and Meghan.

With the hope that a deal is agreed in the coming days, there is a general understanding that it will take some time to implement.

Though enough progress has been made, Monday’s royal summit won’t be the last such gathering needed to sort things out.

The formidable obstacles that may be encountered during the meeting could be issues such as funding and liaison between the palace and Prince Harry and Meghan’s new organisation.

The couple is already preparing to launch their own Sussex Royal charity, which was set up after splitting from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s foundation in June last year.
