Messi Becomes First And Only Player To Register 1000 Goal Contributions

Lionel Messi is now the first ever player to reach 1000 goal contributions as he meets yet another milestone.

The Barcelona talisman was once again lethal in front of goal against Eibar as he single-handedly led Barcelona’s onslaught of the Laliga outfit.

With four goals, Messi has now surpassed his greatest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo in the number of hattricks scored and is now the only player to have made up to 1000 goal contributions.

The Argentine was previously running through a goal drought having failed to tuck any goal into the net for the past four games. However, he was truly exceptional against Eibar, running through the middle, left and right flanks easily.

Perhaps, more interesting was the fact that he formed a brilliant connection with new signing, Martin Braithwite, who was signed from Leganes outside the transfer window.

The Leganes striker marked his debut with two assists and put up an incredible performance.

Lionel Messi ended his goal drought early into the encounter, nutmegging a defender before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper in Messi-esque fashion.

He then added two more goals to his tally before the interval, completing a fine hattrick and taking his number of hattricks to 36, two ahead of Ronaldo.

Even when the diminutive forward was experiencing a goal-drought, he was still incredible in the final third, registering eight assists in nine of his league games.

As it stands, the 32-year-old has found the net 696 times and registered as many as 306 assists for club and country in a phenomenal 16-year career.

Messi at 32 still has a long time to play in top-flight and could extend his goal and assist margin even further in that period.
