Messi Blames Shameful Copa America Pitches

While admitting that he is far from his best in the ongoing Copa America, Messi believes that the grounds keeping has been below standard.

Messi took aim at the state of the pitches used for the continental competition after helping the Alberceleste through to a semi-final clash with Brazil.

The Argentine captain however once again produced a below par performance with his only goal in four matches coming from the penalty spot against Paraguay.

Messi attests to the fact that he has been far below his best performances through the 2019 Copa America but has the pitch groundsmen to blame as well.

“The ball looked like a rabbit, it goes all over the place with this pitch. All we can do is adapt.

“The pitches are awful. That doesn’t help keep possession, you need a second longer, it bounces poorly, you cannot lead.

“But we played a complete game and we were able to win.”

Martinez who is now the Alberceleste highest goal scorer with two goals to his name is relishing the challenge despite going into the semifinal clash with Brazil as the underdogs.

“We have our own players,” he mentioned.

“We know it will be difficult because they are the home side and they will be in front of their fans.

“We are showing that we give our all in every game. Luckily things are going well.”

Argentina are poised to meet Brazil in Belo Horizonte’s Estadio Mineirao on Tuesday, the Selecaos first meeting in a major finals since the 2007 Copa America final.
