Michelle Obama Presents Beyoncé With Humanitarian Award at 2020 BET Awards
Beyoncé is the latest recipient of the annual Humanitarian Award at the 2020 BET Awards, joining past recipients like Muhammad Ali, Chance the Rapper, Alicia Keys, and last year’s honoree, Nipsey Hussle.
Beyoncé is being recognized for creating the #IDIDMYPART Mobile Testing Relief Campaign with her mum, Tina Knowles-Lawson, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her BeyGOOD initiative has teamed up with Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey to donate $6 million towards providing mental wellness services in Houston, New York, New Orleans, and Detroit.
BeyGOOD has also contributed to causes focused on voting rights, scholarships, as well as the Global Citizen Fellowship Program.
She recently released a single, “Black Parade” and announced that proceeds made from the song will go towards supporting small Black-owned businesses in need.
She dedicated the award to her “brothers and sisters out there inspiring change” and emphasized the importance of voting.
