Minimum Wage: FG, Labour Finally Reach Agreement

  • FG and NLC finally agreed on new minimum wage structure.
  • Both parties are expected to release a communique after the outing.

Information reaching indicates that that the Federal Government and Organised Labour have agreed to a template on the consequential adjustments for the N30,000 new national minimum wage with different percentages for each grade level from grade level 07-09.

iDONSABI gathered that this was agreed at the meeting between both parties on Thursday night. Recall that it was announced that the meeting will hold from 7 pm on Thursday.

They have now agreed that workers on grade level 07 will get 23.2 percent increase; grade level 08 at 20 gets percent; grade level 09 gets 19 percent; from grade level 10 – 14 gets 16 percent and from grade level 15 – 17 there will be 14 percent increment.

The salaries of military and paramilitary officers were increased at well at the meeting but the percentages were kept confidential. This will be communicated to the leadership of the institutions at the appropriate time. According to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, the agreement is expected to take immediate effect.

The development was revealed by the Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo on his Twitter. He said truce has been reached between Federal Government and Labour representative, and both parties have come to terms on the mode of payment.

“After some delicate negotiations (with both Ministers as conciliators) Government and Labour have finally reached an agreement on the consequential adjustments of other wages following the implementation of the enhanced minimum wage of N30,000. We are now working on the communique,” he tweeted.
