The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has revealed that Sokoto State was the state where the most illicit drugs were seized from in the country.

The NDLEA revealed on Friday that it had confiscated 2.5 tonnes of Rohypnol valued at more than #20 million from the State.
That is an excess of 2500 kilos of hard drugs which is equivalent to 50 bags of rice since the size of the drug is at 50kg each.

Speaking to newsmen, the State Commander of the NDLEA, Misbahu Idris, said, “These seizures were recorded by the command in the last 12 months from Sokoto State alone. Idris said.

The Sokoto state command of the NDLEA also claimed it had seized 200 kg of Indian hemp, and 450 kilos of cough syrup with codeine.
Idris bemoaned that more than 45 per cent consumption of illicit drugs was recorded in the North West.

“This obnoxious development is taking its toll on the most productive segment of the society, the youth.

“The youth are regrettably more vulnerable and unfortunately they are the future leaders of the country.

“The earlier this ugly trend is reversed, the better for the future of Nigeria; otherwise, the consequences will be colossal” Idris said.
